Milwaukee Eye Care proudly welcomes Michael Murphy, MD, FACS.
Dr. Michael Murphy is a highly esteemed and experienced board-certified ophthalmologist and oculoplastic specialist whose expertise lies in plastic and cosmetic surgery. After practicing in Aspen, Colorado for the last six years, we are excited to welcome him back home.
A Wisconsin native, Dr. Murphy was born and raised in Elm Grove, WI and graduated from Brookfield Central High School. He went on to pursue his Bachelor of Science in Zoology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison followed by his Doctor of Medicine from the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee.
Dr. Murphy completed his internship in Preliminary Medicine at the Maine Medical Center, followed by his residency at the Eye Institute, Medical College of Wisconsin, where he was Chief Resident. He furthered his medical specialization with two fellowships – a fellowship in Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Department of Ophthalmology, University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics and secondly in Neuro-Ophthalmology at the same institution.
Dr. Murphy has held academic appointments as an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology and Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the Eye Institute, Medical College of Wisconsin.
Over the course of his impressive career, Dr. Murphy has been recognized for his excellence and skill, including awards from the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and Top Doctor recognition from Milwaukee Magazine, M Magazine, and other publications. He formerly served as president of the Wisconsin Academy of Ophthalmology, and is an active member of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, American Academy of Ophthalmology, and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Michael Murphy views ophthalmology as a unique privilege and responsibility to restore, maintain, and improve the sight of his patients. He is committed to fostering a strong patient-physician relationship in order to provide the best possible individualized care. Dr. Murphy takes time to understand the goals of each patient and works collaboratively with them to determine the best options to meet their needs.
In his free time, Dr. Murphy enjoys spending time outdoors with his family, hiking, cycling, skiing, boating, and traveling.
