A few key tips to UV Protection

Summer is in full swing! The birds are chirping, children are outside playing, families are vacationing, and the sun is shining brightly. With summer comes sun and with the sun comes harmful UV rays. Now is the time to act – protect your eyes and the eyes of your family members!

How can that be done? Simply put, don’t forget your UVA/UVB sunglasses. Keeping these harmful rays out of your eyes reduces your risk of developing conditions such as cataracts, macular degeneration, and skin cancer around the eyes.

Going on a road trip and don’t think you need them in the car? Think again. Glass naturally blocks UVB rays, which cause sunburn, but glass doesn’t block UVA rays. Windshields are treated to block UVA but most side and rear car windows do not protect against UVA rays, so remember the sunscreen and wear your sunglasses in the car.

Swimming in a pool or hanging out at the beach on a cloudy day? Yes, it is still a great idea to keep those sunglasses on. UV radiation can still be damaging on a cloudy day.
