We are proud to welcome Dr. Mackenzie Sward to Milwaukee Eye Care. We are so thrilled about the experience she brings to our staff and patients. She is a comprehensive ophthalmologist specializing in cataract surgery, macular degeneration, and diabetic eye disease. She also performs minimally invasive glaucoma surgery and surgical treatment of eyelid disorders. Here’s a brief interview with Dr. Sward to help you get to know her:
Where did you study medicine?
“I grew up in Minnesota, and attended the University of Minnesota Medical School in Minneapolis. My residency training was at Loyola University in Chicago IL.”
Did you always want to be an ophthalmologist?
“Yes! Restoring vision and preventing vision loss has always been a passion of mine.”
Who do you admire most?
“My grandmother. She instilled a sense of generosity and service in me from a very young age. She lived out her beliefs daily, and was also one of the strongest women I’ve known as the head of a large family and leading a very active life despite living with Parkinson’s Disease.”
What inspires you?
“I’m inspired by my patients every day. As physicians, we have the privilege of meeting and caring for many new people of all backgrounds on a daily basis. I am continuously humbled by the trust my patients place in me when I perform their eye surgery. Sharing in this aspect of my patients’ lives is a uniquely personal experience that fuels my passion for providing eye care.”
Which is your favorite quote?
“Be the change you wish to see in the world” – Mahatma Gandhi
If you could sing one song on a televised competition such as The Voice or American Idol, what would it be?
“My go-to karaoke song is “Forget You” by CeeLo Green.”
If you could be a super hero, who would it be?
“Superman. He lives a seemingly modest, honest life but on the side saves people with his super cool powers. I would also be able to use his super speed to clean my entire house in under 1 minute…not to mention flying!”
Being from Minnesota: Vikings or Packers?
“I married a die-hard Packers fan, so I do what is needed to keep my marriage happy!”
